The Clark County Public Library historically maintained card indexes to local history resources. These indexes, the Newspaper Index and the Clark County Biography & History Index, are now available to be searched online. Use the indexes to locate references to local people, places, businesses, events and more. Then use our Research Request forms to order copies of the references.

The Clark County Biography & History Index is a master index to resources in Clark County Public Library’s local history and genealogy collection. Entries are included for personal names, businesses, industries, organizations, places, events, etc. Full-text of these resources are provided online by the Library.

The Newspaper Index provides the headline, date and page number for articles that appeared in the Springfield News-Sun newspaper from the mid-1970’s to February 29, 2008. Please note that the index covers articles pertaining to Springfield and Clark County news only (no statewide or national news). Newspapers can be viewed on microfilm at the Main Library on 201 S. Fountain Ave. The Library has 2 digital microfilm reader/scanner machines. Print copies can be made at a cost of 15 cents per page. Scans may be run at no cost, but you must have a USB/flash drive to save your scans.

Clark County, Ohio – Viewing the Past is a new database offering digital images of rare and fragile resources from the Library’s collection. Many items will include full-text searchable transcripts. Be sure to visit periodically – new items will be added on a continuing basis. For best results, use either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox as your web browser when viewing this collection.
